NYE Traditions

So as most of my friends know, our family has always had an annually NEW YEARS EVE party (or as I like to call it OLE YEARS NIGHT). It is something we enjoy doing to bring close family and friends together to bring in the new yr. Since our family is multi-cultural there are alot of traditions that we have for the Shenanigans of this particular night.

  • Due to our Island culture, we have to eat black-eye peas in some form or fashion for prosperity
  • Due to my step dad's Irish culture we have to have pork (which I'm not exactly sure why)
Along with these major headliners, there are some other things that also make an appearance at the annual party....My MUST HAVE Jello Shots, Brand New Cocktail Dresses and Karaoke.

However I must say that nothing at all can take the cake for the new traditions we added to the list this year....My mom invited a Hispanic Family to our festivities and along with the fabulous chocolate cake they brought, they also bought some NYE Traditions.

  • From toasting with Champagne AND 12 grapes that represent prosperity for the 12 months of the upcoming year
  • Shaking money in a red container, that represents more wealth and prosperity
  • Throwing water out the door and sweeping it.......at this point I was no longer paying attention, so I'm not sure what it meant
  • Running around in circles with a suitcase...I think this is to bring travel opportunities into your life

Now my family has a strong faith base and we all believe that God is the ultimate decider of things unknown and unplanned and he already has 2011 written and published... So aside from the sheer fun of all these activities, I believe that it also allows us to truly participate with one another and LIVE, LOVE, and LAUGH together...

I cant wait on our next NYE celebration!!

Lasting Memories

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of having a fun filled photo shot with my sisters. When we went down to Mckinney by a quaint little coffee shop. It was so much fun and I made memories with my sisters that can never be replaced! Big thanks to Rebecca Egger for taking these pictures for us. The memories that you captured for us will never be forgotten and we will be forever greatful for them!

What Matters the Most!!

Sometimes it takes a simple opportunity to make people realize what's really
important and what's not. Two weekends ago I went on a retreat as a part of
completing my confirmation. While I was there, I realized that we cannot be
forgiven unless we forgive ourselves and others. It was great getting to know
other people and focusing on the number one person in my life, God.

Rotary Wednesday!

So for those of you that dont know, Caresse and I attend the North Texas Pioneers Rotary Club. Now you may be wondering what exactly is Rotary..the purpose of the organization is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Long Story short: "Service above Self". We do this through projects on a local, regional, and global basis. The organization was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris in Chicago.

OK, so since you got a quick, and when I say quick, I really mean quick because there is a lot more I could say about Rotary that would make you wanna be a part of this great organization. Even though I was ambushed by Caresse (Left-Sider) to go to the first meeting. She normally comes up with her wild crazy ideas and events, and for some reason I'm the one with the follow through. Match made in CRAZY HEAVEN. But I must admit that this invite as her "default guest" was one of the greatest things my sissy encouraged me to do.

Anywho.... so tonight we had a very touching program about a Tanzanian Mission, which provides medical and educational services during the summer to the Tanzanian people. I am sure our club will be a part of in the summer of 2012. More info in later blog posts.....

I also dressed up in a ballgown that was borrowed from.....yes.... my sissy Caresse! BEAUTIFUL! The club President and I had to make a special about an upcoming Rotary Gala to support the Rotary Foundation! AND, we had a surprise turkey dinner, that consist of a cake! Pumpkin Spice cake that looked like a turkey... see pic below...AMAZING!

Where can u go to have great German food, drink beer and wine and still work on GREAT SERVICE PROJECT.... ROTARY!
