Christmas BEFORE Thanksgiving?!

What?! Yes, it’s true! In Trinidad it seems like everyone celebrates and observes almost all religious holidays, which makes for wonderful days off school! For those of you not familiar with Divali (Diwali) the Hindu festival of lights. While very important to Hindus, this marked the need to eat A LOT of curry and most importantly, beginning of our family’s Christmas Season.

It used to be that Christmas in our house came right after Divali…which is in OCTOBER. Since we’ve moved to the United States, Halloween and Thanksgiving are now both occasions/days we enjoy. My mother LOVES Christmas; in fact, she counts down the days starting on December 27th.  Christmas i
n our house comes before Thanksgiving since we’ve moved to the United States in 2002 as not to offend those who JUDGE people who decorate before the Turkey Day. So as a result, you guessed it! “We” as in, SHE, started to decorate on November 7th.  NOVEMBER 7th?! Yes, you can start laughing now.  Apparently the decorations don’t exactly count as decorations if they’re not all light up!

We love our mom, she surely is one of a kind. So unique she woke us all up at 7:00am on a Sunday to put up the Christmas trees. Yes, trees as in THREE. Now it looks like my house threw up garland. We love our mom, don’t get it mistaken, she’s the anchor that holds all of our traditions together, a house is a house but she makes it a home, even if we get our holidays all out of order! So get ready…it’s Happy Thanks-it’s not Christmas yet but it sure looks like it-giving season at OUR HOUSE!

With all this happening, the only question that comes to mind is: Does turkey and eggnog taste good in your mouth at the same time? Well, stay tuned! I might just be able to convince Chelsea to try that bad boy combination out!

Growing up we were thought the TRUE meaning of Christmas, and coming from the islands we are use to strippin the house of "its pretty" (as my granny would say) by repainting from ceiling to floor, buying new furniture and appliances and lets not forget the new curtains... which my mom still gets sent to her from Trinidad EVERY YEAR!

For the past couple of weeks I have been surrounded by boxes of garland and lights, and the excitement of getting ready for our family's favorite time of the year. All it took for me to help was a *boof  from meh granny all the way in Trinidad... Like it of not, we will be having Turkey with Christmas lights :-)

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas in the Smith/Bucchan home....

Why we are, who we are!

WELCOME TO Doing Left Right

For those of you who dabble in the world of psychology, you may have heard of a little theory called “birth order” with reference to personality. In layman’s terms, your birth order is said to determine the kind of personality you have. With four girls and four birth orders, that makes for A LOT of personality.

First
Middle
Last
Only
Natural Leader
Flexible
Risk-taker
Close to parents
High Achiever
Easy-going
Outgoing
Self-control
Organized

Peacemakers
Self-centered
Mature

Independent
Financially irresponsible

Sensitive

I’d say these are about 85% accurate for us but there’s so much personality in a crazy family like ours, we all have a little bit of everything. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, our perspectives and opinions on everything is always outside the box.  Our mother always said that during her time of the month (might be TMI) one month she has no pain at all and the next she has more pain than she did during any of her births. That’s where the name of the blog came from and our healthy sibling rivalries that every family has.

We have the right side siblings  (Candace and Celeste) who cause no pain or stress and are, in general, super nurturing and responsible in our mother’s life and the left side siblings (Caresse and Chelsea) who…well… let’s not call us “stressful” let’s call us INTERESTING and most times FUN. Life isn’t worth living if it’s not interesting right?! Then again, I am a left sider so I might be a bit biased!

We generally “team up” The right siders and the left siders: Candace and Celeste are usually the ones who keep Chelsea and I in the realm of reality.
A bit about us-
Candace- The oldest, the nurturer; the one who looks out for everyone, 28 years young and fabulous.
Caresse-The second oldest, sometimes too brutally honest, pseudo painter, 23 years mature and fabulous
Celeste- the third oldest , the wise one, cross country runner and violinist extraordinaire, 16 years old and fabulous
Chelsea- The youngest, the baby because she’s 14 but not so much, cheerleading captain and violinist extraordinaire, crazy and of course fab.u.lous.

Again, welcome to our blog where you can not only witness our lives but be a part of it!  Get ready for THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE!
